In anatomy we call the shoulder the "shoulder complex" which means it has many structures like muscles, ligaments, nerves, blood vessels, bones & tendons and sometimes one or more structures can cause problems and lead to a frozen shoulder, tendinitis, trapped nerve, tendon tear, ligament instability, OA, muscle sprain, bursitis, referred pain from your neck, liver or gall bladder to name a few.
How can Osteopathy help?
Once the Osteopath has done a full examination and is happy that the pain is due to a problem from the musculoskeletal system and nothing serious that needs medical attention, we use a variety of techniques such as articulation, soft tissue work, Muscle energy techniques (where we get a patient involved in treatment by resisting a series of movement), HVTs (see video what to expect during an osteopathic session below), and stretching techniques to name a few in order to treat. The aim of the treatment is to restore movement, reduce pain, reduce inflammation and speed up recovery.
