Chronic Pain is when a symptoms has been present for a long while. could be weeks, months or even years. Some Chronic pain are constant and others come and go. Some patient experience Chronic pain due to Osteoarthritis and some patient might have chronic pain. As Osteopaths we believe that the body is a unit and as everything is connected it's important to understand why a patient has been suffering with chronic pain. If it steams for a trauma or a compensation in the tissues due to an injury we need to g back to basics and progressively improve the general mobility, restore movement in restricted areas, reduce tension in the muscles and regain balance in the body.
How many session does it take to be better?
Some patients get much better after a couple of session and some patients might need to come in more regularly for maintenance. We see many patients with osteoarthritis and generation in the joints and tissues and although there are no cure for OA, we are able to either provide pain relief, reduce the level of pain, or prevent a joint from getting worse too quickly. We see some patients that might not be pain free after treatment but Osteopathy helps them carry on things they enjoy in life and don't need as much painkillers.
We always aim to have between 2-4 sessions to strut with and then reassess the progress and if a patient needs more regular session, this is discussed with the Osteopath. Some patient might start with 4 sessions weekly and then only come in one a month or even just once every 6 months for general maintenance treatment
