Headaches are extremely common. The symptoms very much varies and regardless if they are mild or severe, they can be debilitating and impact someone's life on a daily basis. They sometimes can affect the vision and can also cause sickness and sensitivity to smells and light. Some of the post common symptoms are pressure over the face, head or eyes, feeling nauseous, fuzziness and sharp shooting pains.
The most common causes of headaches can be due to poor posture, anxiety, stress, dehydration, stress, jaw or neck problems but can also be due to food intolerances or even blood flow changes in the blood vessels in the skull.
Some headaches are easier to treat than others and Osteopathy can help reduce the severity or the frequency of them by using a variety of techniques including cranial treatment (see section for cranial osteopathy)
What causes neck pain?
Neck pain is becoming more and more common especially since phones, computers and tablets are part of our everyday lifestyle. Some neck pain can be caused due to poor posture, carrying a heavy bag one sides, restriction in the spine, muscular tension, stress, whiplash, arthritis or even sport injuries. Some neck symptoms can be chronic like osteoarthritis or it could also be acute like whiplash. Some neck pain can also refer down to the shoulder or towards the head and can cause headaches.
Osteopaths asses each vertebrae in the cervical spine to check for any restriction or muscle tension but will also look at the bigger picture by checking some other areas in the body that could lead to why the neck pain started (for example a tilt in the pelvis or a restriction in the middle of the back).
